FREE GREENHOMES WORKSHOP - 10, 17, 24 November & 1 December

The Australian Conservation Foundation in partnership with Environment Victoria and Council are conducting free sustainable living workshops. The workshops are delivered as part of the ACF's GreenHome Program and will be held in Traralgon during November and December. They will provide participants with the confidence to implement actions that can make a real difference to their individual and community impact upon our environment's resources.

"This is an important opportunity for our community to access practical sustainable living information and more importantly build connections with others in their community to promote and implement sustainable living practices more widely.  Those living in the country have a long history of conserving resources through need in hard times, this gives us an important leadership role in teaching our neighbours and the next generation the skills that practical sustainable living requires.  Everyone has a part to play in the conservation of energy, water and food resources needed for a prosperous future for our families and communties. " said Council's Environment Officer, Skye Radcliffe-Scott.

The workshops will be held at the Traralgon RSL, 109-115 Grey Street, Traralgon between 6:30 and 9:30 PM on:

Tuesday 10 November - Saving energy at home

Tuesday 17 November - Saving water at home

Tuesday 24 November - Smart ways to shop and reduce waste

Tuesday 1 December - Eating your way to a healthy environment (food and gardening)

Places are limited so please contact the ACF on 1800 223 669 by Friday 6 November to book your place.

THE SOUTH GIPPSLAND ENVIRONMENT

South Gippsland is home to many varied natural environments, significant flora and fauna and prominent tourist sites such as Wilsons Promontory National Park, Agnes Falls and Coal Creek Heritage Village. We are very proud of our beautiful parks and gardens and our magnificent coastline.

Council recognises that “South Gippsland is facing new challenges. With the global economy impacting milk prices and local investment houses, and hotter drier summers resulting in increased fire risk, we now need to factor these global and climate change considerations more assertively into our decision making. We want to make our communities more resilient, and capitalise on the opportunities that arise in a changing world.” (Council Plan 2009-2013, A Message from the Mayor)

Council is committed to balancing the community’s need to responsibly use and enjoy our natural resources with the need for their protection, enhancement and renewal. To achieve a sustainable environment, Council commits to achieving the following outcomes and strategic actions:
