THE SOUTH GIPPSLAND ENVIRONMENT
South Gippsland is home to many varied natural environments, significant flora and fauna and prominent tourist sites such as Wilsons Promontory National Park, Agnes Falls and Coal Creek Heritage Village. We are very proud of our beautiful parks and gardens and our magnificent coastline.
Council recognises that “South Gippsland is facing new challenges. With the global economy impacting milk prices and local investment houses, and hotter drier summers resulting in increased fire risk, we now need to factor these global and climate change considerations more assertively into our decision making. We want to make our communities more resilient, and capitalise on the opportunities that arise in a changing world.” (Council Plan 2009-2013, A Message from the Mayor)
