Fire Prevention

Council's Local Laws Officers work in conjunction with the Country Fire Authority (CFA) to ensure the safety of the community, particularly through periods of high fire danger. Fire hazard checks are performed annually with follow up inspections if and when required. Permits are required to burn off during Fire Danger Periods. Application forms are available from this website or contact the Local Laws Department and speak with a Municipal Fire Prevention Officer.

Bushfire Recovery
The Department of Human Services is responsible for helping Victorians recover after the bushfires.

Retrofit your home to improve fire protection
The Building Commission and Country Fire Authority (CFA) have joined to provide practical advice to those wishing to upgrade existing homes to be better protected from bushfires.

A range of options exist and the Bushfire Retrofit Guide is divided into two parts; retrofit for generic ember protection and retrofit protection for various Bushfire Attack Levels (BAL), based upon the Standard.
