Nyora is located on the Western boundary of South Gippsland Shire adjacent to Cardinia Shire Council in the West and Baw Baw in the North.

1862 McDonald's Track surveyed between Lang Lang and Poowong.
1870's Farm selections were taken up around future township then known as Lang Lang East.
1883

Lang Lang East Primary School opened.

During the planning stages of the Great Southern Railway, Lang Lang East station was called Nyora.

1886 The Nyora township was proclaimed.
1890 The railway reached Nyora.
1893 Post office, blacksmiths, hotel andd a hall had been established.
1910 Nyora station became a junction stop to change trains to the Bass Valley dairy towns.
1960 Speedway was opened next to the recreation oval.
1978 Railway to Wonthaggi closed.
1993 Great Southern Railway closed.
2016 Tourist railway closed.
