Population Growth and Land Supply Study

About the study

The study is intended to identify the areas in South Gippsland where population growth may be encouraged with least impact on Council and the community. It provides a basis for discussion by Council on priority issues relating to population growth, strategic land use planning, biodiversity, agriculture and business. The Population Growth and Land Supply study aims to:

  • Quantify current land supply and ensure Council has enough Commercial, Industrial and Residential land supply to facilitate current and future needs for the next 15 years.

Limitations

The access to historical data is limited by:

  • Changing Council boundaries
  • Census geography
  • Level of details reported with census data
  • Changes in categories for industries of employment
  • Aerial photography scale and range change over time and some aerial photography is missing from archives.

Who was involved in the study

The study has been prepared by South Gippsland Shire Council, Social Planning, Strategic Planning, Economic Development and Geographic Information Systems staff. Community members volunteered to be interviewed for case studies.
