On 26 January 2019, the Australian Government will mark 70 years since Australian citizenship was introduced into law, creating for the first time a legal status of being uniquely Australian. For 70 years, citizens have been working together to build a strong, united and prosperous Australia.
All citizens commit to Australia and its people, working together to increase the prosperity of our nation. In 2019 we celebrate the diverse stories of our citizens, the values that we share and the history we create together.
The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) is responsible for all matters relating to Australian Citizenship.
If you are interested in becoming an Australian citizen, or would like to find out if you are eligible, please phone the DIBP hotline – 13 18 80 or visit the DHA website. Once your Application for Australian Citizenship has been submitted, DHA are responsible for letting you know if your application has been successfully approved.
Once approved, your name will be added to a Citizenship Ceremony waiting list and Council will be informed.
DHA will send you a letter of invitation which will comprehensively outline all the information you will need for your attendance at the ceremony.
