Local Government Elections

Thinking of standing for Council?

If you are passionate about your local community and would like to make a positive contribution to the Shire, you might like to consider running for Council in one of South Gippsland Shire’s three Wards:

  • Coastal-Promontory Ward
  • Strzelecki Ward
  • Tarwin Valley Ward

Local Councillors have a key role to play in planning decisions, new infrastructure projects, financial management, residential amenity and the general well-being of their community. Council provides around 120 different services for the benefit of its community.Nominations for candidates will open on Thursday 15 September 2016 and will close at 12pm (noon) on Tuesday 20 September 2016. If you are thinking about standing for Council, further information is available from the VEC - Becoming a Candidate, from the Municipal Association of Victoria MAV - Stand for Council or Victorian Local Government Association (VLGA) website.

Information sessions will be made available, and will be publicised accordingly.
