Fines and Infringements
Infringements or fines are incurred for breaches of regulations and cover a range of offences.
Infringement notices can be handed to you in person, put under a windscreen wiper blade of your car or sent to you in the mail.
Failure to pay an infringement notice or to take any other action within 28 days may result in incurring additional costs or further enforcement action.
How can I pay for my fine?
You can pay via the website using your credit card.
Alternatively you can pay over the phone using your credit card, or in person at Council's Customer Service Centre, 9 Smith Street, Leongatha.
Can I make a payment arrangement?
If you would like to make a payment arrangement please fill in the application for infringement payment plan. Council's Local Laws Team will respond to you in writing with approval and the details of your arrangement.
How can I review my fine?
If you believe you have a good reason why you should not pay the infringement notice, you may apply for an internal review.
To request an infringement notice be reviewed, it must be in writing and sent to the South Gippsland Shire Council. The Infringements Act 2006 allows for an infringement notice to be reviewed only once.
To assist with processing of your application to have the notice internally reviewed, the following information is required:
- Name and address;
- The infringement/notice number;
- Offence date;
- Car registration (if parking infringement)
- An explanation of why you believe the infringement should be reviewed.
All reviews must be sent in writing addressed to the Coordinator of Local Laws and sent via post to Private Bag 4, Leongatha, Victoria, 3953 or via email to email@example.com
The review process can take up to 90 days or longer if additional information is required. You will be notified in writing of the outcome of the internal review. During this period, please do not pay the infringement notice.
We recommend that if you have not received a written response within 28 days of submitting your request for an internal review, that you contact the Coordinator Local Laws on 5662 9200.
