Road discontinuance

A road discontinuance is to remove the road status of a road reserve.  This means that the road or road reserve is no longer required as a road for public use.

Objectives

  • To facilitate the discontinuance and sale of roads and reserves that are no longer reasonably required for access or for the purpose they were originally set aside for.
  • To ensure that no land-locked allotments would be created irrespective of ownership.
  • Land no longer required for its original purpose, may be better utilised by adjoining property owners.

Applications

If a property owner wishes to purchase an unused road reserve adjacent to their property, they will need to follow the road discontinuance process by filling out the application form.
