South Gippsland Shire Council was created on 2 December 1994, with the merger of the former Shires of Korumburra, Woorayl, Mirboo and South Gippsland.

The Shire covers an area of 3,280 square kilometres and some of the nation's most arable agricultural land.

Taking in the major townships of Korumburra, Leongatha, Mirboo North and Foster, South Gippsland offers a diverse range of commercial, social, cultural and environmental qualities.

The Shire has a thriving range of commercial enterprises and small businesses. Economic development is strong in the industries of dairying, horticulture, forestry, fishing, boutique food and wine, retail trade, manufacturing and tourism.

South Gippsland is a vibrant and exciting Shire, boasting prominent tourist sites such as Wilsons Promontory National Park, Agnes Falls and Coal Creek Heritage Village. We are also very proud of our beautiful parks and gardens and our magnificent coastline.

The region is rich in resources and offers a favourable climate for a wide range of lifestyle activities.
