| With four and a half years as a Councillor with the Korumburra Shire Council prior to amalgamation, and eleven and half years with the South Gippsland Shire Council, Cr Newton brings a wealth of experience and local knowledge to the Council table.
Cr Newton is an active participant in this community where he has lived all his life.
A Committee member of the Kongwak Community Group, the Meeniyan Progress Association and the Fish Creek Community Group, he is also a member of the Inverloch and District Lions Club and Landcare, and is a Justice of the Peace.
Running a 200 acre beef farm, Bob has first hand knowledge of the issues that are important to farmers, and like many residents, is keen to see more sealed roads in the Shire. He is also focused on keeping rates to a minimum whilst improving infrastructure and current services.
Asked about his highlights in Local Government, Cr Newton said there were many, but that the upgraded libraries around the shire were particularly pleasing.
“With four of my five children and sixteen grandchildren living in the shire, I’m delighted they have access to these vital facilities that not only link communities but provide education and recreational material and pleasure at no direct cost to residents.
In his spare time, Bob is a passionate historical researcher and collector. Not only does he have an amazing collection of memorabilia, he has created invaluable historical records for posterity on many fascinating subjects, and generously shares this with the Korumburra Historical Society and others who are interested.
He is also a Committee member of the Antique and Historical Arms Collectors’ Guild of Victoria.
