Korumburra Community Hub

The Korumburra Community Hub development is a component of the Korumburra Revitalisation Project (KRP) which aims to reinvigorate the town centre and meet the needs of the community through development of integrated services and the platform to attract investment. The Hub was a Council advocacy priority and is identified in the Korumburra Town Centre Framework Plan adopted by Council in October 2013. The Hub has been designed by architects France-Jones Morehen Thorpe (FJMT) and will accommodate;

  • Library services
  • Milpara Community House services
  • Korumburra and District Historical Society
  • Multi-purpose meeting spaces / consulting rooms
  • Kitchen facility for catering purposes
  • Future provision for Council services

Funding of $5M has been received from the Victorian Governments Community Infrastructure Loan Scheme and $750,000 from the Living Libraries Infrastructure Fund.

Construction commenced in late 2021 and will be completed in 2023.

Progress Report - August 2023

The development of the Korumburra Community Hub is nearing completion following some significant delays during construction. The project is 98% complete, with most of the building works finished, commissioning in progress and outstanding worklists being addressed. The external landscaping is well underway and expected to be completed in the coming weeks. The project is now expected to be fully completed in spring 2023, with an official opening being planned for November 2023. Temporary arrangements are in place for the future Hub occupants, in preparation for their move to the new facility:

  • Myli Community Library
  • Milpara Community House – continuing to offer all services at their current premises a 21 Shellcot Road, Korumburra VIC 3950

Hub Location

The 2013 Korumburra Town Centre Framework Plan identifies the Victoria Street/Little Commercial Street location as the preferred site for a "centrally located site where residents can access a range of different services."  The preferred site was selected following significant consultation with the Korumburra community.

After this, there was discussion about moving the Hub to the Korumburra railway yard but funding issues and land tenure restrictions meant that it was more feasible to return the Hub to the location previously identified in the Korumburra Town Centre Framework Plan. Assessments on three sites were conducted by external consultants prior to the old kinder site being selected.

The Victoria Street site offers good views, a northern aspect and is centrally located in the heart of the Korumburra CBD. The location was officially adopted at the September Council Meeting in 2019.
