Maternal and Child Health
How our Service Works
After your baby is born
- Your local MCH service will be a great source of support after your baby is born. Once your hospital or midwife has advised Council’s MCH service of your baby’s birth, a MCH nurse will contact you by phone during your first days at home to arrange the date and time of your first appointment. This is usually a visit in your home.
- Following appointments are usually held at your local MCH centre but you are welcome to attend the centre that suits you best. Please see your local MCH centre below.
- Where a parent, carer or child is identified on the birth notice as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, the local government MCH service will advise the family about Aboriginal MCH service options.
- MCH nurses work with families using interpreters. This is a free service to the family. The hospital will inform our service if an interpreter is required, or it is available on request.
- If you have recently moved into the South Gippsland Shire, please call 5662 9294 to make a booking with one of our nurses.
