Dismissal of Council
Statement from the Acting CEO re: Dismissal of Council
“Yesterday I received a call from Local Government Victoria to inform me that the Minister for Local Government, Adem Somyurek, had tabled the reports on South Gippsland Shire Council from both the Municipal Monitor and the recent Commission of Inquiry.
“I have since had an opportunity to inform the Councillors of the Bill before Parliament recommending that they be dismissed.
“At this stage I do not have any more information than is available via the reports.
“I understand that an Interim Administrator will be appointed immediately and that in time we will be working with a panel of three Administrators. I also understand that the Ordinary Meeting of Council next Wednesday 26 June, which includes consideration of the Annual Budget, will proceed as advertised.
“While the Bill has passed the Legislative Assembly and the upper house, it still needs to receive Royal Assent. Councillors will remain in their positions until this process is complete."
