Gippsland Kerbside Organics Tender
South Gippsland Shire Council is one of six Councils collaborating on a Gippsland-wide Kerbside Organics Tender facilitated by Resource Recovery Gippsland.
The tender aims to deliver a collaborative solution for the management of kerbside materials, in order to deliver:
- increased resource recover and reduced landfill
- cost effectiveness and economies of scale
- emissions reduction
- increased local employment and procurement opportunities
- a move to a sustainable regional circular economy model.
The six Gippslsand Councils currently provide kerbsite waste management to almost 136,000 households collecting around 100,000 tonnes of waste and recyclablels across an area on 41,556 square km.
This costs approximately $7M per annum. Of this amount 35 - 45% is FOGO which can be utilised as a marketplace commodity.
