Leongatha heavy vehicle alternate route

VicRoads and South Gippsland Shire Council are pleased to advise that construction works are underway.

The Leongatha Heavy Vehicle Alternate Route has been identified as a priority for South Gippsland Shire residents and a key to facilitating amenity, safety, commercial and parking improvements within the town centre. Around 600 heavy vehicles are expected to be diverted away from the town centre each day.

Timelines for Construction:  Late 2016

Completion of the on-road components of the Heavy Vehicle Alternate Route including the Bair Street Rejuvenation Project.

This weeks planned works (weather permitting) 10-15 October:

• Construction of a concrete splitter island in Anderson St, at the intersection with McCartin St.
• Reinstatement of kerb and driveways in Anderson St.
• Concrete infill of splitter islands.
• Installation of various signs.

** Asphalting works will commence at the intersection of South Gippsland Hwy and Nerrena Rd on Saturday 15th October, continuing through Sunday 16th October. This will see the final application of asphalt to be installed at this intersection, together with permanent linemarking, and is subject to favorable weather conditions. This work is being undertaken on the weekend due to lower traffic volumes than during the week.

Drivers are reminded to comply with the 40km/h speed limits throughout the worksites, and to obey the 'Left Only' signs and give way to pedestrians when turning left or right.
