FREE LEGAL ADVICE - VLA lawyers at the Morwell office can help with:
- criminal charges
- family law matters
- intervention order matters
- child support matters
- some civil matters
- general legal advice and information
* Call our office on 5136 6444 (Monday to Friday, 8.45am - 5.15pm) to enquire about making an appointment for legal advice
* Lawyers from VLA Morwell also service Fulham Correctional Centre
* If the matter is urgent or someone cannot easily get to the office, VLA may be able to give legal advice over the phone.
* When coming to an appointment, please bring:
- all paperwork
- any records of interviews with police
- pay slips and/or Health Care Card
- bank statements

LAWYERS AT COURT - VLA Morwell has duty lawyers at the Magistrates Court and the Childrens Court at:
- Korumburra
- La Trobe Valley (Morwell)
- Sale
- Wonthaggi (Childrens Court only)
* VLA Morwell also has duty lawyers at the Federal Circuit Court at Morwell
* The Duty Lawyer Service is free. However duty lawyers do not represent everyone. Therefore it is always best to speak to VLA before going to court

LEGAL REPRESENTATION - VLA can provide ongoing help from a lawyer, to clients with a grant of legal assistance
* VLA can also support people going to the Mental Health Review Board
Eligibility: Eligibility for a grant of legal assistance depends on the applicants financial situation and legal problem. Grants are generally for criminal or family matters, but can be for some civil cases, such as discrimination, immigration, social security or mental health matters

Cost

No charge for information, advice, duty lawyer services, publications.
If a grant of legal aid is made and a lawyer is allocated to the case, legal aid is not always free. The amount an applicant may have to pay depends on their financial situation.
