Juneen Schulz - Walkerville

Juneen is a quiet achiever and a strong community leader. Using the medium of gardening, cooking and feasting, Juneen knows when something needs to be done in our community and she gently brings people together to make it happen.

Her passion for local — to buy local, eat local, grow local — within the Corner Inlet community has influenced and actively helped facilitate the growing popular re-emergence to produce and showcase local food. Juneen is a powerful educator, mentor, garden muse, empowering many diverse personalities in the community to join in with others. She gives her time and knowledge freely whenever it comes to gardening and food preparation and encourages community sharing of the flavours and joys of the produce.

Juneen was one of the founders of the Buckley Park Community Farm, which grew out of a desire to be able to support the community with good wholesome food wherever possible. Her outreach in the community is deep and wide over many years. From Toora schools to the newly created Sandy Point Community Garden, Juneen always has an ear open to who might be in need, whether it be a community group or school needing advice or someone who just needs a veggie box pick-me-up for a while to get them through a hard time.

Juneen is so worthy of formal recognition for her 'can do attitude' and her gentle humble way of engaging and bringing people together from all works of life within the wider South Gippsland community for over 30 years. Not to mention creating and achieving community goals as a highly skilled communicator.

Juneen has been an inspiration to so many people getting their veggie gardens in order, and living well simply — with the flare of a party where everyone is welcome!

In the last 18 months so many people within the Corner Inlet community have started or re-started their veggie gardens. Juneen has continued to engage and support others in person and through her writings and articles in newsletters and papers. She has continued to welcome, connect and support long term locals, new residents and visitors through the community gardens and food projects while navigating challenging COVID times and regulations.
