Councillor Nathan Hersey

Nathan has a strong love for Gippsland and an even stronger passion for serving others.

Growing up in Moe, at 18 years of age Nathan moved to the Mornington Peninsula to study a Diploma of Business Management and Human Resources Management, before going on to complete a Bachelor of Arts. A career in hospitality supported him whilst studying, starting and operating a successful hospitality business.

In 2014, Nathan began part-time farming in Woorarra West in South Gippsland, the foundation of a Scottish Highland Cattle Stud. The farming operation has since expanded and relocated to Korumburra. Nathan has previously been on the Board and been the Vice President of the Australian Scottish Highland Cattle Society.

Following study, Nathan volunteered in the field of Aid and Development, before beginning employment with a Federal Member of Parliament as an Electorate Officer in 2012.

Holding positions of Office Manager and later as an Adviser to Ministers in the Government, Nathan has advised and worked for Cabinet Ministers covering Environment, Small Business, Health and Aged Care and Cabinet Secretary. During the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, Nathan was a Parliamentary Advisor to the Hon. Greg Hunt MP, Minister for Health.

Nathan is married to Lucy and has one son, Hugo. In early 2019 Nathan permanently relocated his young family to Loch, and quickly became involved in the community, before nominating for council in 2021 and subsequently being elected.

Along with serving on Council for South Gippsland, Nathan is also on the board of the Municipal Association of Victoria and holds the positions of Gippsland representative and the Chair of the Professional Development Committee. Nathan is also the Deputy Chair of One Gippsland.

It is his greatest privilege to represent his local community, and to advocate on important local issues, using his experience in business, agriculture, government, and politics to inform policy and contribute to the future of South Gippsland.
