FOGO - Residential Service
Your kerbside collection service is changing due to new Victorian Government legislation.
From 1 July 2026, all residential properties receiving a kerbside waste and recycling collection service will have a new bin system. The two main changes from the current service are:
- Green waste bin becomes FOGO: pop your garden waste, food scraps and other organic waste in your FOGO bin. This bin will now be collected weekly.
- General waste (red lidded) bin: food scraps and other organic waste will no longer go in your general waste bin. Your general waste bin will now be collected fortnightly.
So what will your weekly kerbside service look like?
What happens now?
For now, keep using your bins as per normal until 30 June 2026 (30 April for six-month service properties).
In May and June, Council will deliver a kitchen caddy, roll of compostable caddy liners and some information on what goes in each bin. Depending on your current service, new bins may also be delivered to you.
From 1 July, start sorting your waste into the following categories:
- FOGO — for food, organic and garden waste.
- Mixed Recycling — things like recyclable plastics, cardboard, glass bottles, tin cans, etc.
- General Waste — things like nappies, dog poo, kitty litter, soft plastics and broken ceramics.
Service Costs and Requests
If you live in a rural area, you are able to cancel your service if this new arrangement doesn't meet your needs. You can do this by completing the form below by Sunday 19 April 2026.
If you start the new service but decide it doesn't suit your needs, you can opt-out at any time.
If the new arrangements don't meet your needs, you can request additional bin capacity for a fee. Requests can only be made by the ratepayer. If you are a renter, please contact your real estate agent or property provider to discuss.
To help you determine if additional bins are right for you, Council has provided the below indicative costs. These will be finalised when Council's budget is endorsed in June 2026.
Note: Recycling is free at transfer stations. Other transfer station fees and information can be found here.
