FOGO - Non-residential
Are you a business or other non-residential customer with a Council provided kerbside general waste (red lid) bin collection service?
From 1 July 2026, you will have a 240 litre Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO) bin added to your waste service. The collection frequencies will also change in line with the residential collection schedule, which is outlined below.
With FOGO being introduced, food scraps and garden clippings can be turned into high-quality compost (at a new facility in Morwell) for use on farms, parks and gardens. Rather than going to waste in landfill, these valuable nutrients get a second life.
There is Flexibility
If Council's kerbside waste and recycling service no longer meets your needs, you can either order additional bins at an extra charge, or opt-out of your collection service and engage your own.
If you already have larger or additional bins, they will remain unless you advise otherwise.
If you opt-out of the service, all Council bins will be removed from your property after 1 July, and waste service charges will be removed from your rates notice.
Service Costs and Requests
To assist you to make decisions on whether or not the new waste services are suitable for you, charges associated with the provision of the new services will be published in mid-April.
Note: Recycling is free at transfer stations. Other transfer station fees and information can be found here.
