We are reviewing the South Gippsland Planning Scheme and we want you to share your thoughts on how it can be improved.
The Planning Scheme is a document that sets out the planning policies, objectives, strategies and controls for the use, development, protection and conservation of land across the South Gippsland Shire.
A Planning Scheme Review is a regular process that assesses whether the planning scheme is operating as it should and is still relevant to current and future planning needs. Council is required to review it every four years and report its findings to the Minister for Planning in accordance with section 12B of the Planning and Environment Act 1987.
We encourage you to read the South Gippsland Planning Scheme Review Report, which states any proposed changes. At this stage, most of the changes identified are what we call 'policy-neutral' - wording and structure updates to make it easier to read but don't change the strategic direction. Some 'policy-positive' changes are also included, but these generally require additional strategic justification before they can be implemented. These have been suggested because they have the potential to deliver improvements to the effectiveness and usability of the planning scheme. A planning scheme amendment will be prepared in 2027 to implement the recommendations of the Review.
