How Our Waste Services are Funded

Hard Waste Collection

A Hard Waste Collection is available once per year and are available to all residential properties in the Shire, not just those who receive a kerbside service. Therefore, the cost can't be included in the Garbage Charge.

Residents who book a collection contribute 56 per cent of the cost through a booking fee, while the remaining 44 per cent is subsidised by Council's General Rates.

Costs associated with the hard waste service include:

  • Collection;
  • Transportation;
  • Sorting;
  • Processing; and
  • Administration costs.

To ensure costs are accurately recovered, Council uses previous years data and known cost trends to set the price (reviewed each year through the budget).
