1862 McDonalds track was an access route that was very influential in having settlers traverse the Strzlecki Ranges.
1874 Farm selection were first taken up.
1878 - 1890 Poowong was a very devout township with 3 churches comprising of; Anglican, Presbyterian and Wesleyan.
1878 Hill settlements established by Danish settlers to the East of Poowong.
1884 A mechanics institute and athenaeum, dating from locally sawn timber was constructed and hosted roller skating for several years.
1892 The Poowong butter factory was opened and livestock was sold through a saleyard attached to the Hotel.
1910 A town progress association was formed and became instrumental in building a swimming pool and a basin of the Bass River
