Citizen of the Year - Nominees

Heather Butler

Heather Butler

Heather has a long history of volunteering that dates back before she moved to Mirboo North.

Since making the move, Heather wasted no time getting involved and has continued giving back to her community.

As her son made his way through school, Heather volunteered on the School Council at both the Mirboo North Primary School and Mirboo North Secondary College. During this time, Heather also volunteered on the Chaplaincy Committee where she worked closely with students, assisted with fundraising events and offered a hand when it was needed. In particular, Heather offered her services as head seamstress at Debutante Balls in case of a wardrobe malfunction or emergency – of which there have been many.

Heather has also committed hours upon hours of her time to other groups and organisations in Mirboo North including:

• The Grainstore Committee;

• Mirboo North Times Newspaper;

• Mirboo North Scout Group;

• Mirboo Music; and

• Mirboo Country Development Inc. (MCDI)

Her contribution to the Mirboo Country Development Inc is possibly one of her most well-known. As part of this organisation for the last 12 years, Heather has been a vital cog that has kept the organisation running. She has undertaken a variety of committee and executive roles as well as being a willing representative on behalf of MCDI on a number of Shire networks including the Town and District Associations Network, Halls Network, and Community Planning Network. She has also supported programs and events such as BooFIIT, Christmas in the Boo, Mirboo North Italian Festa, Grand Ridge Rail Trail Park Run and the monthly market.

Heather is eloquently explained as a selfless woman who puts her community before herself, which is easy to see with all she has done for Mirboo North.
