Bass Valley Road Bridge Renewal

About the Bass Valley Road Bridge Renewals

South Gippsland Shire Council has been successful in securing funding from the Australian Government’s Bridge Renewal Program to replace four single lane bridges along Bass Valley Road between Bena and Poowong.

The four bridges were constructed in 1916 and have experienced deterioration, unfortunately reaching the end of their lifespan.

The total cost of the project is $3,792,000 with the majority funded via the federal funding ($3,033,600).

We are currently in the early phases of the project which includes:

  • Preliminary designs and planned treatments, i.e. bridges/culverts and road improvements
  • Environmental and other site investigations

The construction phase of the project is expected commence in 2026.
