Kerbside Recycling Collection

Mixed Recycling is the bin for paper, cardboard, glass, some plastics and metals.

  • Paper and cardboard can be turned inot new paper and cardboard, tissues, newspaper, insulation, kitty litter and cartons for eggs and fruit.
  • Glass bottles and jars can be remelted into new bottles and jars.
  • Hard plastics can become new packaging materials like cling wrap, agricultural films and industrial liners, polar fleece, furniture, plastic containers, wheelie bins and irrigation pipes.
  • Aluminium waste can become drink cans, automotive parts and industrial components, building materials (frames, cladding and fittings), furniture and bicycles.

How do I use my Mixed Recycling bin?

Collect your recyclables using a separate inside bin, basket, plastic tub or cardboard box, then empty into your bin.

Make sure you:

  • Only put items in loose. Recyclables cannot be in plastic bags.
  • Make sure everything is empty and lightly rinsed.
  • Flatten your cardboard boxes.
  • Crush plastic bottles and replace the cap.

What items can go in my bin?
  • Rigid plastics.
  • Cardboard and paper.
  • Glass bottles and jars used for food, drinks, medicine and toiletries.
  • Aerosol cans.
  • Tin cans.
  • Aluminium foil (scrunch into a ball the size of a golf ball or larger) and cans.
  • Gable-top cartons (e.g. milk, juice).
  • Long-life cartons (e.g. milk, soup, stock, juice boxes).

What items can't go in my bin?

  • Anything on the 'Accepted' list for your General Waste or FOGO bin.
  • Plastic bags, plastic wrap or polystyrene.
  • Glass kitchenware (e.g. Pyrex, drinking glasses), glass windows, glass household items (e.g. vases, mirrors) or broken glass.
  • Clothing, fabric or rags.
  • Batteries or e-waste (any item that uses a cord, battery or charger).
  • Laminated, coated or lined paper and cardboard (e.g. waterproof boxes, straws, fish and chip paper, deli paper, plastic-lined takeaway containers.)
  • Construction materials (e.g. ropes, cables, wood, pipes, wallpaper, bricks, concrete etc.)
