Candidate Information Sessions

Council will host a Candidate Information Session on behalf of the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) on Monday 12 September at 7.00pm in the Council Chambers, Michael Place, Leongatha.

Council has prepared a South Gippsland Shire Council – Candidate Information Sheet that outlines the frequency of Council briefings and meetings and some workload indicators, to give candidates an indication of the commitment required to be a Councillor for South Gippsland Shire. It is important to note regular Council activities are undertaken during business hours on Wednesday’s.

Successful candidates are required under the Local Government Act 1989 to make their Oath and sign that they agree to abide by the Councillor Code of Conduct 2016, before they can officially become Councillors. Candidates are encouraged to read the Councillor Code of Conduct as this is one of the first policy documents they will be required to adhere to.

Local Government Victoria has recently amended the Local Government (Election) Regulations 2016. These are available on the State Government’s legislation website under Victorian Law Today and under Statutory Rules
