Before an Emergency

Are you prepared?

Keeping Informed Before an Emergency Types of Emergencies
Being prepared for a range of emergencies is extremely important. Bushfires, floods, heatwaves and storms can pose a threat to you and your property. Power outages can occur at any time and can be caused by heatwavs, fires, or storms. It is critical that you have considered and planned for the potential of these situations.

Create an Emergency Plan

Start by considering the important decisions you might need to make if faced with an emergency and write these down. You could even have a copy of all your important documents in a special 'grab bag'. After you have created your plan, make sure the people around you understand the plan and know their role in an emergency. This might even include people outside of your household such as your neighbours and local community groups.

There are many helpful tools to assist you in creating an emergency plan. Please see below links:

An Emergency Information sheet has been prepared by Council to help with the development of your Emergency Plan. It contains contact information and other useful prompts to help you develop your own plan.

Emergency Management Planning Information documents have been created by the following communities to support the creation of your emergency plan. These documents contain information on community services, networks, communications channels and a disaster profile.
