Rates

Rate revenue helps fund the services Council provides to ratepayers and residents.

This revenue is collected through charging rates to the owner or occupier of every property in the municipality. In setting the rates Council aims to charge rates equitably by using property values to fairly distribute rates charged. Council uses the Capital Improved Value (CIV) of each property as the base for setting differential rates that apply to various property classifications.

The formula for calculating General Rates (that cover most residential properties) is: General Rates = Capital Improved Value x Rate in the Dollar.
