Safe Local Roads and Street

Project 12: Michael Place, Leongatha

Why this project?

McCartin Street, Smith Street and Michael Place in Leongatha are heavily pedestrianed streets within the shopping area of town with several points pedestrians find difficult to cross. This project intends to encourage pedestrians to cross at designated areas where they will be more visible to drivers and traffic will be slowed to allow them to cross.

What is involved?

There will be five raised pedestrian crossings installed along Michael Place with some lighting.

What are the benefits?

The treatments will make this area of Leongatha safer by encouraging drivers to slow down. It will also improve walkability of the town centre by providing safer connections for pedestrians around the post office, RSL and Woolworths car park.
