Install or Alter a Septic Tank System

If your septic system is no longer needed (e.g. you have connected to sewer or installed a new wastewater system) then the system must be made safe.

To decommission a system you will need to engage a licensed plumber to complete the works.

The plumber will:

1. Have a pump out agent pump out the tank, rinse it with water and pump out the rinse water
2. Break the tank bottom, collapse the walls and top to below ground level
3. Use clean fill to bring area back to level with surround areas
4. Complete the Decommissioning a Septic System Form and return to Council. We recommend that you keep a copy of the completed form
